All classes are run by a qualified physiotherapist and have a maximum of 6 participants to ensure a high level of supervision. What is the history of Pilates?
Joseph Pilates developed his exercise approach as a result of years of pursuing a diverse range of exercise regimes to help him overcome his own health issues (rickets, asthma, rheumatic fever). He explored Eastern and Western styles of exercise as well as ancient Greek and Roman regimes. In merging these experiences Pilates created an exercise regime that considers both physical and mental conditioning with the power to enlighten those who commit to the experience.
What sets it apart from a workout at the gym is in fact the requirement for a mindful presence and mental engagement with each exercise, a constant self modulation and quality control.
Discipline and concentration are central to this approach and are drawn from the Eastern influences in Pilates’ Journey.
At Eastern Sports and Spinal Care we are committed to the practice of The Pilates Method respecting the history of how it came to be and the philosophies it espouses. Every Pilates session should culminate in a greater understanding of the body and the way it works.
Our pilates mat and equipment classes are conducted by a physiotherapist who understands your specific needs and limitations.

We look forward to helping you get started.
