Is hip pain disturbing your sleep?
Pain over the outside of the hip is often first noticed when lying on your side usually on the affected side but also sometimes when lying on the opposite side and letting your knee drop forward. This has often been diagnosed as “Trochanteric Bursitis’ and management in the past has been with a cortisone injection in to the bursa which gives short term relief at best.
We now know that the bursal enlargement is a protective strategy for the overlying gluteal tendons that are unable to tolerate compression and load.
The best management approach for this condition is with specific exercise at a level that your tendons can tolerate.
We have a special interest in lateral hip pain (see brochure attached) and our physiotherapists will assess you thoroughly and set you on the right road to recover!
