Pain in the foot may be as a result of numerous problems:
- An injury to the ankle or lower leg resulting in the limb being immobilised, in plaster or a moon boot can result in the small joints of the mid foot becoming stiff and painful.
- Often pain can occur as a gradual onset, which may be as a result of altered walking patterns due to another problem e.g. painful knee, hip or back.
- Over stretching of the ligaments supporting the arch can result in plantar fasciitis presenting with heel or instep pain.
- Prolonged walking in unsupportive or inappropriate footwear can also lead to strains, tears and inflammation of the tendons inserting into the foot.
What happens if I have pain in the Foot?
Our physiotherapists will assess your whole lower limb mechanics, walking pattern and specific joint mobility to determine the factors contributing to your pain.
Treatment may include joint mobilisation, massage and stretches to tight muscle groups and strengthening exercises. If necessary we can refer you to a podiatrist for orthotics.
