Eastern Sports and Spinal Care Virus Protection Protocol
As of Monday, March 16th 2020
If you or people you have been in contact with have travelled overseas or have been on a cruise ship even in Australian waters in the last 2 weeks, we will not be able to see you
Or have you in an exercise class for 14 days after your return travel date provided you are well.
As you are aware the public health advice to try and stop the spread of this virus is changing daily and we take the health and safety of our clients and staff very seriously. We also have a large number of clients who are at high risk for contracting this and other viral influenza.
We request that all clients wash their hands with soap for 2 minutes as they arrive and before you leave his practice.
We ask that all clients attending floor classes bring their own towel as a headrest and all class participants to wipe down all equipment they have used at the end of each session.
We will be limiting the class size to 4 people for the duration of this health crisis to further protect you from any viral spread.
If you would prefer, we can do individual exercise sessions with you.
If you would prefer to exercise at home, we can set you up with a tailored exercise program and individual kit and can then progress your program by telephone or via a skype consult.
We do not know how quickly the COVID-19 virus is likely to spread in Australia but we want to be prepared and keep everyone as safe as possible.
Did you know that the flu pandemic of the 1918-20’s was how the Pilates approach to exercise started?
Joseph Pilates was born in Germany and was determined to overcome his own health issues (rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever)with exercise and he pursued a diverse range of exercise approaches combining both Eastern and Western Methods. He was a keen martial artist and boxer and went to England to further his boxing career in the early 1920s.
However, as a result of the war, he was interned in a Prisoner of war camp in the UK. He and his colleagues started taking springs off their beds and making makeshift exercise equipment which was the beginnings of the Pilates equipment as we know it today.
We are not suggesting that you start taking your beds apart but Joseph and his colleagues all survived the flu pandemic and attributed this to being fit and strong.
We can help you maintain your fitness and strength by setting up your own individual exercise program.
We have a large number of clients who are in the high-risk category for contracting this virus either due to their age, poor respiratory function and other health conditions that suppress their immune system as well as past and current treatment for cancer.
We are advising these clients to have a home program set up for them and to stay at home for the duration of this health crisis.
We will still continue to see clients individually and have strict hand and equipment hygiene protocols in place. Should your physiotherapist become unwell you will be advised by phone and your appointment will be rescheduled with another therapist if possible.
Social isolation is very difficult for us and so if all and so anyone needs to stay indoors, we will try to stay in touch either by email, phone or facetime or by skype if you would like us to. Please let us know your preference.
We also have exercise DVD’s and Audio recordings if you would like to exercise with us from your home.
We are still running our walking group at Hazelwood Park on Tuesday mornings at 9.00 am while the weather is kind. If you would like to join, please let us know – we meet at 9.00 am at the swimming pool and get the benefits of fresh air, sunshine and exercise followed by a coffee afterwards. Come Along!
