EASTERN SPORT & SPINAL CARE
COVID-19 UPDATE – Wed 27th May 2020
To our valued and loyal clients
It is about 2 months since my first email to you and I am really pleased to say that we are now able to open our doors for face to face consults and as of June the 1st we will also be running some of our group exercise classes. See timetable.
However, in order to keep everyone safe now and in the future, we have made several changes which include:
Staggering our appointment times to minimise the number of clients in the reception area.
Allowing extra time between appointments to allow for thorough cleaning of our treatment rooms between consultations.
Reducing the number of clients doing face to face floor classes to ensure 4 square meters per person.
Staggering our class times to reduce the number of clients crossing over at any one time and to allow cleaning of all equipment used at each session
This will mean that we need to reduce the number of clients we can see during our usual consulting times and the number of clients who can attend some classes.
However we will continue to offer some online classes e.g. floor classes, chair based fitness, Parkinson’s mobility class and some individual exercise sessions for those who would prefer to exercise from home, live in remote areas or who are unable to attend the practice for face to face sessions.
We still have clients and staff with family members with compromised immune systems and keeping them safe is a high priority!
Accordingly, our practice protocol is as follows:
All clients presenting to the practice will be screened for any cold or flu symptoms and if so will be asked to re-schedule their appointment and advised to attend a Covid-19 clinic for testing.
All clients presenting to the practice will have their temperature taken on arrival.
All clients must wash/sanitise their hands, on arrival and before leaving the practice and may bring their own towel for comfort.
Clients attending exercise classes are asked to bring their own theraband, towel and water bottle (we are happy to give you one if you don’t have one).
During the practice closure we heavily discounted our fees as at that time there were no health fund rebates for online physiotherapy telehealth or group consults and we offered a cascading fee structure for classes to help clients stay active, strong and connected with others. However now most health funds are offering rebates for individual telehealth consults although not for group sessions.
As we return to regular face to face consults with increased time between consults etc, in order to keep our business running we need to return to our normal fee structure. Currently, a rebate for online classes cannot be claimed from your health fund but we feel it is a valuable service to enable you to have supervised exercise sessions from wherever you are – at work, home on cold winters nights or even if you are away.
Individual telehealth consults will attract the usual fee with your physiotherapist.
At present we are very fortunate in South Australia to have no active Covid-19 cases for 21 days, but we are putting these very strict hygiene protocols in place as recommended by SA Health to keep everyone safe as a long-term protocol.
For those who feel they need to stay isolated we are very happy to help you to set up your computer, phone or iPad so that you can stay connected, and can join in one of our programs to stay strong and active, maintaining your balance, function and sense of humour as we connect via the internet and have a few laughs!
If you have friends or family members who you feel would benefit from joining one of our programs, please get them to phone us and we will determine which program will be most appropriate for them.
CLIENT SURVEY
Several weeks ago we sent out a link for a survey on Survey Monkey to all of our clients who had attended exercise classes over January and February. If you attended classes during this time but haven’t received the survey can you please let us know so we can send it to you again. If you received it but have not yet completed it, we would be very grateful if you could do so. If you attended classes before they went online but haven’t taken up the online option your responses to the survey are equally important to us and we urge you to complete the survey as soon as you can. Thanks for your support in helping us to deliver the best service we can into the future.
NEW OSTEOFIT CLASSES
Now that we are able to run our exercise classes on-site again, we are excited to launch our new 1-hour Osteofit classes running on Mondays and Thursdays. Osteoporosis is a condition effecting approximately 2/3rds of Australians over the age of 50. It is a silent condition unless you have had bone densitometry screening or a fragility fracture. Reduced bone density significantly increases your risk of suffering a serious fracture such as at the hip which can have devastating consequences. If you are interested in learning more about osteoporosis and our Osteofit classes Tenille and Louise will be presenting an information session via Zoom on Wednesday June 3 at 6pm with the opportunity for your questions to be answered at the end of the session. Please register your interest in attending this session by calling the practice on ph 83310606 so we can send you the link to join us on the night.
Even if you don’t think you are interested in participating in the classes, we would encourage you to join the information session to learn about the many ways you can influence not only your bone health but that of all the members of your family. This is especially important for families with young and teenage children. If you cannot attend the information night, we will be posting a summary of the information on our website following the session. You can also pick up a brochure when you are next visiting ESSC.
You may be wondering what the right exercise programme is for you –
Does it include Osteofit, or should there be other priorities?
As physiotherapists we are exercise specialists and can help you to set appropriate exercise goals and devise a comprehensive exercise programme to match these goals with your individual circumstances. To read more about choosing the right exercise have a look at the article Louise has put together for our website: What Type of Exercise Should I be Doing?
Come and see one of us to fine tune your existing routine or get started with one if you are not regularly exercising.
We remain committed to providing quality care while ensuring safety of staff and our valued clients.
