Are General Activities Becoming More Difficult?
Do you have a family member or friend who has been confined to home due to the Covid19 pandemic and who has lost their mobility, confidence, strength and balance?
We can help them regain these important functions.
Being confined to our homes has meant we sit for longer periods – reading, knitting, watching TV etc. – we are not walking to the shops, getting in and out of the car as often, going up steps etc. and we gradually lose strength in all our muscle groups.
Remember the slogan – “If you don’t use it, you lose it!”
It’s very true – what it means is that our body becomes deconditioned.
The major risk here is that as we lose strength, balance and our reactions become slower – the risk of falling increases significantly.
This can have life changing consequences particularly if they fracture a hip.
At Eastern Sports and Spinal Care, we conduct both individual and small group exercise sessions to help clients to improve their strength and function.
We also run some online classes via zoom e.g. chair-based fitness and mobility and balance – addressing upper and lower limb strength and confidence to step in many directions and a balance class using the principles of Tai Chi.
The positives of the online classes are that you can exercise in your own home while talking to your Physio and other participants. All you need is a chair and some theraband which we can supply for you.
Our concern is that the Covid19 pandemic and lifestyle changes are likely to stay with us for some time – and we don’t want people to become frail and more at risk of further problems – particularly for those who are osteoparotic – they need good muscle control to support their spine and joints.
There are several options at Eastern Sports and Spinal Care.
Ring us today and we will recommend the best option for you/your friends’ circumstances.
