Focused Relaxation and Clinical Hypnosis are both excellent skills to learn to help you deal with the numerous demands of daily life.
Why is Relaxation beneficial?
It is important to be able to relax both our bodies after heavy work/exercise and our minds following intense interaction or dealing with multiple tasks to allow them to recover and work efficiently. Massage and gentle stretching can help our muscles return to their resting length after exercise but it is often difficult to relax our mind.
Sometimes we have so many demands on us that it can be difficult to prioritise or achieve our goals. We cope with working under high pressure or with many demands for short periods provided there is a break from the demands to enable you to rest and recover. If the pressure is ongoing without any forseeable reduction , stress levels increase and often the ability to function efficiently reduces. Initially we may feel overloaded and soon become tired and fatigued, which becomes reflected in our posture leading to aches and pains in joints that are not well supported. If not addressed this may lead to muscle imbalances with some muscles becoming tight and overactive leading to undesirable movement patterns which creates a vicious circle.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis can be described in many ways according to how the experience is structured. The most common experience is a state of focused attention usually accompanied by a deep state of relaxation. But clients are not asleep and can converse freely and will not do anything they feel uncomfortable about.
The experience of hypnosis is naturally motivating, calming and affirming. Contrary to popular mythology hypnosis gives people a greater sense of self control.
